Bible Study of the Gospel of John

September 18 to November 13, 2018.
Tuesdays, 6:30 to 8:00 pm in the Cahill Center, Meeting Room 2.

Would you like to grow in your relationship with Jesus? In this study we will focus on Jesus's encounters with eight people throughout the Gospel of John: the woman at the well, Nicodemus, Lazarus and others. As we read how John witnessed these encounters we will personally encounter Jesus Christ and grow in our relationship with Him. We will follow The Turning Point, A Gospel of John Bible Study from Dynamic Catholic. You can purchase a participant's workbook on line at dynamiccatholic.com. However, it is not required in order to participate in the study.

Any questions, please contact Marie Kavanaugh at (815) 280-3909.

THE GOOD PILOT, PETER WOODHOUSE
By Alexander McCall Smith

Book Discussion--December 7, 2018
Used books at the Rectory Office for $9.
All are welcome--invite a friend!

Val was working as a land girl when the Americans arrived at the nearby airfield in 1944. Mike, a young American airman, came into her life soon after, and so too did Peter Woodhouse, a dog badly treated on a neighboring farm and taken in by her aunt.

Little persuasion was needed for Mike to take Peter Woodhouse to the airbase and over time he became the mascot of the American squad, flying with them whenever their Mosquitoes took to the skies. When their plane is shot down over Holland, both Mike and Peter Woodhouse are feared lost.

But, unknown to their loved ones at home, Mike and Peter Woodhouse survived the crash. Taken in by the Dutch resistance and with the help of Ubi, a German officer, the pair to remain in hiding till the end of the war when they are reunited with Val. We then follow Val, Mike and Peter Woodhouse as they rebuild a life in England and Ubi as he returns to Germany at the end of the war and tries to build a new life for himself. His dream is to run a Wall of Death, a circuit ring that pits motorcyclists against gravity as they attempt to stay upright at ever increasing speed.

"MCall Smith's generous writing and dry humor, his gentleness and humanity, and his ability to evoke a place and a set of characters without caricature or condescension have endeared his books to readers." --The New York Times

MEN'S SPIRITUALITY--THAT MAN IS YOU

Men get together weekly on Saturday mornings to share faith
and ideas on topics that they are interested in pursuing.

After an extended "summer break" that began shortly after Easter, we are about to launch a brand new semester of TMIY. The title for this fall's program is "The Revelation of the Father", and will focus on how we, as Catholic men, can improve relationships within our families while strengthening our faith and spiritual lives.

During the next thirteen weeks we will discover:

* The true dignity of the heart of a father.
* The four types of formation necessary for fathers to properly nurture their children and families.
* The parenting methods inspired by the saints and proven effective with the most difficult children.
* The challenges confronting men in their fatherhood and the means to overcome them.

ATTENTION: ALL WIVES, SISTERS, MOTHERS, DAUGHTERS AND WOMEN WHO CARE: Now is the time to reach out to the men who are important to you and your family. Encourage them to join us on this journey. They won't regret it!

That Man is You! meets on Saturday mornings at 6:30 am for breakfast in O'Connell Hall at St. George School. All adult men, 18 and older, are invited to join us. To learn more about this program, please contact Don Budny at (708) 429-1823; dbudny3@aol.com or Gary Hendzell at (708) 614-1734; ghendzell@msn.com.
