The Church is in constant prayer for the sick. Our love for those in need is shown in the care we offer them. The Sacrament of the Sick is a special way in which the Church extends itself to those who seek healing in body, mind and spirit.
In Saint James letter, he wrote; is anyone sick among you? He should summon the presbyters (priests) of the Church and they should pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will save the sick person, and the Lord will raise him up. If he has committed any sins, he will be forgiven (James 5: 13-15). This is a sacrament that seeks healing, not a final goodbye. If you know you will be going into the hospital, having a surgical procedure or in any serious heath situation, please do not delay and call for a priest to offer the Sacrament of the Sick. It is very important that no one wait “until the last minute.”
Once in the hospital, chaplains are often available. If you would like a priest or deacon to make a pastoral visit whether at home or a hospital, please call the parish at 708-532-2243.
